UKRAINIAN PEASANTS’ ANECDOTES ABOUT GEORGIANS’ TASTE FOR BOYS, 1909

 

Presented here are translations from German for this website of the only passages of Greek love interest to be found in Das Geschlechtleben des ukrainischen Bauernvolkes (The Sex Life of Ukrainian Countryfolk) by Pavlo Tarasevskyj, Volodymyr Hnatjuk and Friedrich S. Krauss, published as two volumes by Deutsche Verlagaktiengesellschaft in Leipzig in 1909. Together, these constituted the third of the nine parts of Krauss’s great work of sexual anthropology, the Anthropophyteia, devoted to the publication of sexual folklore then usually purged from published collections.

Despite the book’s title, it is the sex life of Georgians, not Ukrainians, that is the subject of the relevant passages, or at least the beliefs of Ukrainian countryfolk about this. Both were then citizens of the Russian Empire.

The relevant passages are all drawn from “Part I: Three hundred and nineteen droll anecdotes and novella-like stories gathered near Kupyansk and Shebekino in the districts of Kharkiv and Kursk.”

The highly controversial problems of Uranianism and so-called sodomy, for instance, might be conclusively solved by some of the stories. [p. 5]

 

A Georgian’s Delight.

Georgians are by nature accustomed to screwing arses. When they see an arse, they are much more excited than a Russian is on catching a glimpse of a woman’s cunt. The Russian who lays eyes on a cunt is prepared to give his all in order to take possession of it for a while, but the Georgian trembles all over on catching sight of a boy’s arse. A Georgian passed a little stream where children were bathing. The little boys soon dove into the water like little fish and soon came up again. The Georgian was pleased by how they dove in and showed their arses. He approached the bank and said: “Little boys, dive under again, I will give you a fiver!” But they, as though on purpose, all gawked at him and would not dive under. A small girl heard him repeat constantly: “I’ll give a fiver!” and said: “Little uncle, give me a kopeck, I will dive!” — “Go to the screwed mother, you have two arses!”

A Georgian asked a Jew to procure a little boy for him for arse-screwing. Georgians, after all, are in the habit of rubbing not in the front but in the back. The Jew, for the sake of a business deal, also went through fire and water; he guaranteed that he would bring back a little boy for him. He looked around the city. He went round and round, and had searched nearly the whole city without finding a boy. What to do? He felt sorry for missing out on some income. An idea then came to him to trick the Georgian. He got a girl from the brothel, dressed her up and took her to the Georgian. Without thinking twice, the Georgian put her on all fours (crab-like) and began to screw. When he grabbed with his hands as he was wont to do, he found a cunt instead of a prick, and his fingers sank into it up to the knuckles. The Georgian said: “Why have you tricked me and brought me a girl instead of a boy?” — “Well now, it’s all the same, one arse is like the next, whether it’s a girl’s or a boy’s.” — “To hell with that! You should bring me that which I have asked you for. When I screw I hold on to the balls!” — “So what? You can screw her and hold on to my balls, and you’ll see it will work out just the same; it’s all the same for you lot, I see no distinction!” —
